Lent: A Season of Reflection and Celebration
As winter gives way to spring (hooray!), the church calendar offers us a time of reflection and joy. Ash Wednesday (5th March) marks the start of Lent, a season of prayer, generosity, and drawing closer to God. Though giving up chocolate – or whatever – may seem daunting and perhaps outdated, the thinking behind it is meant to remind us of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross to bring us into a friendship with God.
Lent isn’t all solemnity and sacrifice. Mothering Sunday (30th March) arrives as a welcome pause! Traditionally a day to return to your “mother church” – often the cathedral – it’s now a time to appreciate mothers, mothering and caregivers everywhere. And at All Saints, Mothering Sunday is all about celebration and thanksgiving. So, as we journey through Lent, why not reflect, give thanks, and look forward to Easter’s hope and joy? And you are ALWAYS welcome to reflect, give thanks and look forward with us at All Saints!
