At long last, we now have permission to proceed with the works to re-order, re-light, and re-decorate the interior of All Saints Church, Thelwall.
His Honour Judge David Turner, Q. C., issued the faculty (licence) on 7th January. Our architects – Donald Insall Associates – will instruct the contractors to move in as soon as possible.
It is likely that the rewiring & relighting will be done first, followed by the repair and redecoration of the walls. Then, the two rows of ‘west end’ pews will be removed and recycled to provide new cupboards and shelving. Finally, flooring repairs will be effected and the ‘terracotta’ carpet will be laid to the west end and nave aisle.
Obviously, the work will involve some disruption to church life, especially as scaffolding will be required. However, we are going to make every effort to keep the church open for all its routine functions. Never-the-less, despite our best endeavours to preserve normality, temporary relocation of activities may still be necessary.
Interior building works can be a stressful business for all concerned, especially for the wardens. However, I know that we can rely on the support of the congregation and the community, to encourage us along the road to ‘project completion’. Thank you for your patience. These are exciting times!
