Parish News – Editorial

I’m writing this on another beautiful day here in sunny Thelwall, what an incredible run of good weather we’ve enjoyed through May! I’m sure like me you’re very keen that it continues. Possibly it’s too much to ask that it doesn’t rain until after Rose Queen but wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could be blessed with the sunshine for Rose Queen.
I’m currently nursing a dodgy back having picked up a heavy object without enough care and attention. At the same time Mike is nursing a calf tear from an overenthusiastic lunge in badminton. What a pair of crocks! I’ve found it so frustrating to not be able to get on with all the jobs I’d planned to do over the last few days. My conservatory roof is desperate for it’s spring clean and I’m mortified by the state of the upstairs windows but alas it’s just not worth the risk of stretching and reaching to do those jobs while my body is telling me I need to sit tight and heal. We have many people in our lovely village who are restricted by their health, not just for a few days or weeks but long term. Being out of action myself has made me very mindful of how that must feel when your head is forging ahead with plans and things to do but physically you just can’t make it happen. I guess there is great wisdom in acceptance of your situation so that you can be at peace…I’m a work in progress there. However in the spirit of positive wellbeing I challenge myself to list three things that I’m grateful for every night before I go to sleep, it’s amazing how much better you can feel about something if you re-frame it into a positive.
Today I am grateful that;

  • I have completed the Parish News on time
  • My back feels better than it did yesterday
  • The friends who are visiting at the weekend will be more interested in our company than the state of our conservatory roof!
