Exit Velocity! – the last few months of the Thelwall 1100 Project
Since June, so many things on the Thelwall 1100 project seem to be coming together with a few more surprises besides!
What do you know about the Anglo-Saxons? Out of the blue came a timely approach to Thelwall History Group from South Trafford Archaeology Group, looking to locate the site of King Edward the Elder’s ‘burh’ or ‘cyty’ here. They’ll be at our celebrations on Saturday 11 October when you can find out more and maybe sign up for a community archaeology dig in Thelwall later this year!
Did you know that Thelwall village now has five blue plaques and work in progress on two information boards? Our Heritage Signage legacy is nearly there – blue plaques are displayed at All Saints’, Greenfield House (Chaigeley) and Laskey Lane. Thelwall Ferry and The Pickering Arms still await permission to put theirs up. Thelwall Hall and Thelwall Railway Station information boards are ready for printing and installation and a self-guided trail leaflet’s be-ing prepared. Book a place for a tour of Chaigeley to learn more of its history. Places limited. Contact maggie.taylor32@icloud.com by Monday 15 September.
Did you know that a large Thelwall time capsule has been buried this year? In July, the Art Installation was erected with a time capsule inside – some 65 items went into it. They’re listed on the Thelwall Community website. Join us for the unveiling of our commemorative stone with Councillor John McQuillian and
afterwards, the cutting of our T1100 Celebrations Cake by Thelwall Rose Queen, Emilia Passey.
