I know it’s February but I would like to say a very happy new year to you all. I hope that the Christmas and New Year festivities were a positive experience for you and yours. No need for a post Christmas slump, Easter Eggs are already in the shops so we have that to look forward to. This time of year with the challenging weather and general darkness can be hard for a lot of people. It may be that you struggle to get out when the weather’s poor or possibly you feel that you leave the house in darkness and by the time you’re home from work it’s dark again. The good news is that the nights are already getting shorter which means more daylight even if we can’t guarantee actual sunshine. My mantra for this year is ‘be positive’, I’m tackling my tendency to be negative, even if it’s only in jest I can often be relied upon to look on the bleak side of any given situation. But no more, I’m brimming with energy and a can do attitude to fuel my way through. My secret weapon is a 30 second cold water blast at the end of my shower each morning. I know it won’t be for everyone but there is a lot of science behind what seems like an act of torture. My inspiration was Dr Michael Moseley, his ‘Just One Thing’ programmes are full of great ideas to help you boost your wellbeing. If you think you might like to give it a try just ensure you only run the water from the neck down, this allows you to manage your breathing and stay in control. That said I’m not a doctor so please do try and listen to the Cold Water episode of Just One Thing on BBC Sounds to make sure you have all the facts and no risks! Enjoy the mag and the month, if you’re short on valentines cards on the 14th remember that you are loved and you are loveable just exactly as you are and any changes you might want to
