Parish News – Editorial

Editorial:

September is a month that conjures mixed emotions for me. I vividly recall all the excitement of new schools, classes and fresh starts. Along with the excitement always came a shed load of stomach turning anxiety in equal measure (and that was just when I was a teacher!). As the children and young people we know experience the rollercoaster of the looming new school term I hope we will all take a bit of time out to reassure them about what it will bring. ‘New’ isn’t always something that is relished especially when the old was comfortable and familiar. Even the most confident and self assured can feel nervous when faced with something completely unknown. It may be a good time to talk to them about being there for those who are visibly struggling, noticeably alone or clearly traumatised by their new surroundings. A kind word or invitation to ‘join in’ can make the world of difference to someone who isn’t coping.

On the 8th September I will be part of the team hosting the HOPE100 walk for World Suicide Prevention Day (10th September). At 3am we will gather at the Halliwell Jones Stadium and quietly take a 10mile walk together returning as dawn breaks to help raise awareness of the need for Suicide Prevention. We believe that through open conversations, active listening, asking questions, supporting people to access help, and challenging stigma around mental health, we can make a difference in Warrington. The walk provides an opportunity to connect with people, have a conversation, share experiences, support one another or just to be silent and take time to reflect, knowing there is someone walking beside you.

If you would like to join us on the walk please search for ‘HOPE100 Warrington’ and register via the ’enthuse’ link. Love and respect Pip x
