Our traditional Lent Appeal this year will be in aid of the Mayak Foundation. Mayak is Russian for ‘lighthouse’. They work to bring light into the darkness for victims of human trafficking and those at risk, guiding people to safety and helping them to build safe, independent lives.
Last year we had a phenomenal response to our appeal and we raised over £800! If we can raise a similar amount this year, we would be able to make a significant contribution to the work of the Mayak Foundation and help make a real difference to people’s lives.
Envelopes for donations are available from the back of church along with some information about Mayak. Putting aside just 50p a day during Lent would really help achieve the target. Donations will be collected in by Sunday, 27th April.
Please help us with your prayers and gifts during this Lent appeal!
Mayak (www.mayak.org.uk) operates in the UK and Russia, working to educate the public in both countries about modern day slavery and to build active communities passionate in the fight against it. Both directly and through committed support to carefully selected local Russian partners, we:
- rescue victims of human trafficking, especially sex trafficking, and help to connect them to shelters, medical and psychological support and rehabilitation;
- empower and train those at highest risk of being trafficked, equipping them for safe, independent adult life;
- fight the spread of HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening diseases among victims of trafficking & exploitation.
