Thelwall 1100 – Legacy Projects Update
In November 2022 you shared ideas for celebrating our ‘cyty’s’ anniversary in 2023 and the legacies to commemorate it. We’ve been able to fulfil promises on things that, with their originator’s permission, were within our control to deliver – the Thelwall jigsaw, the T1100 commemorative photobook and 2 (soon to be 3) publications of local interest. Who would have thought that physically sharing our local history and heritage with plaques and information boards would prove so difficult! Following a meeting with a member of Warrington Borough Council’s Planning Directorate in July, we have had some clarification. For all listed buildings and structures in Thelwall, we need to apply for Listed Building Consent for plaques and Planning Permission for information boards and the proposed art installation. We still need to establish ownership and obtain permission for four of the eight sites that Thelwall History Group worked on. With the help of Grappenhall and Thelwall Parish Council we’re amassing the necessary information ready to go on-line with our application. At the same time we’re finalising the heritage signage text with the owners. The October 30 2025 deadline looms! – we’re focussed on doing as much as we can in time and within budget.
