I hope this finds you suitably wrapped up and able to enjoy the comfort of your home while the weather turns. I think sunny autumn days are quite special so long as it stays dry…when the rain sets in I struggle a bit but I don’t mind the cold. I have set myself a fitness challenge, I’m a few weeks in to the Couch 2 5 K programme, some of you may have seen me shuffling around the village (apologies for that). Time will tell if my motivation holds and I manage to drag myself out after a couple of weeks in Spain, watch this space.
Traditionally Christmas is one of the ‘goal dates’ in the year that people use as a milestone date to achieve all sorts. Challenges such as fitness goals, house renovations and to do lists. Along with the positive impact of achieving things we can also experience a serious low when we realise we’ve bitten off more than we can chew. Generally we are told to set ourselves SMART targets, I can’t remember what each letter stands for but I know that Achievable and Time Sensitive are in there. Well it may just be where I’m at but these days I’m happy to just be making progress. Somehow I weigh less than I did last year, I’m getting more exercise and my work life balance is significantly improved. People talk about ‘enjoying the journey’ and I can honestly say that taking the pressure of definitive targets has made the whole thing more manageable for me.
Whatever journey you’re on I hope you are able to enjoy it and allow yourselves to recognise your achievements along the way. Life is a rollercoaster and there’s a season for everything-if now isn’t the time when you can do x, y, or z (however desirable) is it really necessary or is it better to accept where you’re at and congratulate yourself on what you are succeeding at. I’m proud of you!
Love and respect as always, Pip
