Vicar’s Article: Turn, turn, turn!
As September rolls in, it feels like creation itself hits the “refresh” button. The summer’s vibrant greens begin to mellow into a tapestry of golds and yellows. It reminds us that God is a master artist who loves to surprise us. It’s also a month where school bags and ginger flavoured hot drinks reappear, signalling new beginnings and cozy comforts. But, much like the children reluctantly returning to school – or starting a new school – we too might grumble at the thought of change. I’m one of those people who mourns the passing of summer. I miss the long, warm days. It’s a month when I pray frequently for an Indian summer!
Yet, in September, God gently nudges us to trust in his timing. In 1965, the Byrds had a hit with the song ‘Turn, turn, turn’, which was based on Ecclesiastes 3 verse 1 from the Bible: “To everything, there is a season.” Perhaps we should embrace this month as an opportunity for spiritual harvest, shedding our old ways like leaves, and growing in our faith? So, as we trade flip-flops for fluffy socks, let’s also step into a season of thankfulness and wonder, praising God for his faithfulness in every changing season.
September felicitations!
