Vicar’s Article: The Greatest Story Ever Told!
When I was out running the other day, I was listening to the Chris Evans podcast on Virgin Radio. Chris’ guest was Bear Grylls, the well known adventurer and survival expert. However, Bear Grylls wasn’t there to talk about his exploits in the great outdoors. Rather, he was there to talk about his latest book: ‘The greatest story ever told’. It’s a book about the life of Jesus. The blurb on the cover states: “This is the incredible true story of a Galilean stonemason who changed the course of the world forever”. Personally, I wasn’t too surprised that he’d written a book about Jesus. I already knew that he was a member of Holy Trinity church in Brompton.
However, what DID surprise me was when Chris Evans said to Grylls: ‘In my opinion, it IS the greatest story ever told – I read a portion of the New Testament every day!’. Apparently, Evans’ local vicar gave him a New Testament a few years back. And he’s been reading it ever since.
According to a recent YouGov poll, more and more people in the UK – especially younger people and those from non church backgrounds – are engaging with the Bible. Within its pages they are finding meaning and purpose in a challenging world.
If you’re looking for some summer reading, why not have a look at Bear Grylls book? Or perhaps join Chris Evans in reading the New Testament? It may just change your life!
