Vicar’s Article: Mothering Sunday: Love in Many Forms
Mothering Sunday is one of those delightfully multi-layered days in the church calendar. Part gratitude, part nostalgia, and part panic for anyone who’s forgotten to buy a card (often me)!
Historically, it was about returning to your “mother church” (for us, Great Budworth), but over time it’s grown into a celebration of mothers, carers, grandparents, mentors, and all who have shown love, patience, and kindness. It’s a day for memories — some joyful, some complicated, all real. We give thanks for packed lunches, wise words, and unconditional support, whether from our own mums or from others who have
mothered us along the way.
In churches — including All Saints Thelwall — Mothering Sunday reminds us that God’s love is nurturing, faithful, and generous, like a good parent but without the magnetic notes on the fridge!
So whether you’re celebrating, remembering, or reflecting on any form of ‘mothering love’, why not join us at All Saints for our Mothering Sunday Service on 15th March at 10am. You’ll receive a warm, nurturing welcome.
