Remembrance: Honouring the Past, Inspiring the Future
Every November, the people of Thelwall come together to remember – not just out of tradition, but as a living moment of thanksgiving and hope. Remembrance Sunday is when our village pauses to reflect on the courage and sacrifice of those who gave their lives for peace.
Yet it also urges us to consider what remembrance means today. In a fast-moving, social media world, taking the time to stand still – to ‘listen’ to the silence, to bow our heads together – feels more powerful than ever.
As we lay wreaths at All Saints church, in its garden of remembrance, and on the Bell Lane war memorial, young and old gather side by side, bonded by respect and compassion. It’s a moment that links our history with our future. It reminds us that peace is seldom guaranteed, but always worth the effort. In remembering, Thelwall renews its pledge to live with courage, kindness, and hope.
This year, our Remembrance Sunday service is on the 9th November at 10am. And, as always, you are very welcome to join us.
