All Saints’ Thelwall is a fully registered Fairtrade Church. In 2012 sales of fairly traded goods at the regular stall (held on the first Sunday of the month) totalled £1,530 which is a very gratifying 10% increase from the previous year. We also ran a very successful stall on behalf of Fair4All at the 2012 Rose Queen event. Fair4All relies on the Sale or Return stalls at local churches for regular income, never more so than in these difficult economic times, and it is very pleasing to note that members of All Saints’ congregation have continued to fully support the stall.
In addition, we also ran a hugely successful Rice Mountain challenge in November, ordering and selling on over 100 kg of rice and sending the money raised (just over £300) back to the rice farmers of Malawi via Justtrading Scotland. The Rice Mountain was the focus of a Family Service run by Trish and Col in November and was supported by the vast majority of All Saints’ members.
2013 will be another very challenging year for Fair4All but the management team have agreed to carry on for the time being and I hope that All Saints will have another successful year raising both money for and the profile of fairtrade.
